August 24, 2025 11.1 miles Begin: 7:00 am End: 1:00 pm Others: none Well, sadly, it can’t last forever. It feels good to be done, but it didn’t take long enough. I think I should go back out west next time. They are longer hikes and less elevation change. Anyway, well see what to do from here…
Felt like a long day, ugh
August 23, 2025 19.6 miles Jay Camp…an enclosed shelter Begin: 6:45 am End: 6:00 pm Others: Strong like Bull Today was a long day that felt like further than it was. I was glad to be done even though I had hoped to make it up to Jay Peak. There was no way, at least I sure didn’t feel like it. By the time I finished eating my dinner it was 7:15 … I was done. There were quite a few ups and downs on the way here, enough that it felt like much further than yesterday, though it was …
A long but ok day
August 22, 2025 Spruce Ledge Camp 18 miles Begin: 9:00 am End: 6:00 pm Others: strong like bull It was a pretty non-eventful after a really nice day at the Inn. In the beginning I ran into a strange guy who was looking for water, I guess. He didn’t look very hard as there was a river less than half a mile away. I’m not sure what he was doing as his pack was back behind me maybe a half mile. He talked my ear off non the less. Then I ran into , who was freaked out by that …
Getting ready for the last bit
Nye’s Green Valley Farm BnB 8 miles Begin: 6:00 am End: 11:00 am Others: one lady also doing the Long Trail plus others haven’t yet met Not really all that much to write about. Just came down from Smugglers Notch last night. It was really awesome up there. I guess I should say that it will take between 3 and 4 days to finish. One last look at Mansfield.
A great view
August 20, 2025 13 miles Smugglers Notch ski cabin on Madonna Peak Begin: 7:30 am End: 4:30 pm Others: 2 hikers who’s names I haven’t gotten yet – Galaxy and Flamingo Today was quite the day summiting Mnt Mansfield and lots of views. I’m looking at Mnt Mansfield out the window right now. Climbing up was fun and a small smackrell scary. There were many little wooden ladders to get you up at various places, and plenty of exposed edges. Anyway, it was a lot of fun. I met the caretaker in the little information building about a mile before …
Camels Hump
Bamforth Ridge Shelter August 18, 2025 15.6 miles Begin: 8:00 am End: 6:00 pm Others: none There is no one else here now, but I ran into Anthony and Desperado after about 2 or three miles. We then hiked all day together. Went over camels hump today at about 4000 ft. It was a more difficult hike than there has been up to this point, but boy, was it worth it. It was amazingly beautiful up at the top. Fro.what we were told by a caretaker, this is the best day in a couple weeks due to the fires in …
A long day
August 19, 2025 Taylor Lodge (really just a shelter, but with 4 walls) 18.25 miles Begin: 7:30 am End: 6:00 pm Others: a married couple from DC going south It was a long day, but not too hard. Though it got a little technical toward the end. I passed Bolton peak about a mile or so ago, but other than that I can’t remember too much. It was a just put your head down and walk kind of day. A pic from yesterday
A Shorter Day
Mad River Lodge 1.6 miles Start: 7:00 am End: 8:00 am Others: none A quick walk on down to the road where I eventually got a ride from a guy who a year or so ago bought some property on the next mountain over and was headed over there. Resupplied, had a quick breakfast, and got another ride back to the hotel. Now I’m just sitting here looking at the trail to come.
A Short Day
Starks Nest ski area – check that – Theron Dean Shelter 9 miles Begin: 7:00 am End: 1:30 pm Others: a group of like 10 ish younger kids Not a whole lot to report today since I kept it short. I think there is three to the road tomorrow, and I’ll have to get a ride into town for resupply. I met a nice girl up top Mt Abraham who worked for Hyperlight. Then I ran into dozens of people on there way up. There were a couple nice ladies here when I arrived and we talked for a bit. …
Beautiful Sunset Ledge
Sunset Ledge 16 miles Begin; 7;00 Ens; 6;00 Others; none Had a nice hike, though I was walking kind of slow most of the day. I didn’t see anyone until around 11, and then it was a pretty steady stream of people. Both hikers and those just out for the day. I had dinner at the last shelter before I arrived here … about 4 miles ago. I’m having trouble deciding what to do about my next resupply. Hopefully it will become clear tomorrow.
