10/29/2025 About 2 miles short of the last shelter 25.3 miles Begin: 8:00 am End: 6:00 pm Then the last day… 14.4 miles Begin: 8:00 am End: 1:00 pm Second to last day was a lot of walking, right up until nightfall just about. I was trying to make the last day shorter and also needed to find water. The last day was pretty chill, and nice easy trail.
Lots of rain
10/28/2025 Brown Creek Shelter 15 miles Begin: 8:30 am End: 2:00 pm Not much to report today. I did a short day today after yesterday’s long one, and the rain encouraged me to call it as well. I’m just 40 miles from the finish, so I think I’ll do another long one tomorrow. Hopefully, I’ll figure out how to get picked up…no phone service here so I’ll try tomorrow from the trail.
A long day
10/27/2025 Oak Mountain Shelter 24 miles Begin: 8:15 am End: 6:00 om A long day and my feet were bothering me a bit. Socks are wet and rubbing a bit. Trying to think what happened, I guess not much until I got to camp. There was a guy there who is going westbound and just started a few days ago. He hiked the AT last year and also added on the Long Trail. He was really nice.
Just a longish day
10/26/2025 22 miles Blue Mountain Shelter Begin: 8:15 am End: 4:00 pm Not much to report today. I went back to Lori’s store before heading out for a good breakfast. Then I just started walking… it was overcast and kind of drizzley all day. Tomorrow is supposed to be clear and then rain the next 2 days. We’ll see what I can get done tomorrow.
Waiting out the rain
10/24/2025 18.6 two days ago 13 miles yeaterday At least waiting out the worst of it here in Story. Day before yesterday was pretty good. I met my only other hiker so far. His name was Cheeter and he was hiking with 2 dogs. He did the AT last year, I think, and the CDT before that. He says he probably won’t do the PCT because of expense and because you have to register. Stayed the night at Suck Mountain Shelter which was pretty nice. I think I arrived there at 4 pm. I was going to move on but …
A call makes all the difference
10/22/2025 Brushy creek mnt shelter 22.7 miles Begin: 7:45 am End: 4:30 pm The day began just fine, but by lunch I was really in the dumps. Thinking, why am I out here? But at lunch time, I checked messages and Dale had messaged that he was leaving water for me about 5 miles ahead. That is all it took for the day to change. Of course it didn’t hurt that the trail was really easy from then on. I ended up having a great day. And maybe a half mile after the water that Dale left, there was some …
Pretty good day
10/21/2025 Foran Gap Shelter 17.4 miles Begin: 8:45 am End: 4:30 pm Started the day with some pancakes at the lodge. There isn’t much better way to begin than with pancakes. Then just hiked some pretty tame trail to get here. It was even mostly in decent shape with only a few miles rough. About a mile before arriving, I stopped for water at a place that wasn’t too bad. It wasn’t really flowing, but it was clear. I noticed that there is no sign of water in the app for like 24 miles, so I got an extra 3 …
The Wilhelmina Lodge
10/20/2025 14.5 miles Begin: 8:00 am End: 3 or 4 pm It was an easy day today. Shorter because I had to resupply at the Wilhelmina Lodge. Though I think I have walked an extra 2 miles getting from my tent to the lodge and back again. I thought there would be water at like mile 9, but when I got there it was not flowing, though there was water in the creek. I opted to just continue on. Maybe not the best decision, because there was no water after that. Thankfully, someone had set some water out at the …
Finally some good trail
10/19/2025 20 miles Begin: 8:00 am End: 5:00 pm The trail, like yesterday, was super overgrown for the first 5 ish miles. Then it joined with a back trail and was nice. It has been good ever since that bike trail so here’s hoping it will continue. The first actual water was probably 12 miles in today and then there were a few sources that seemed ok. I haven’t actually tried any sources yet because there has been water at the road crossings, and Dale put out two for me. One yesterday and the other about 5 miles into today. …
The Ouachita Trail
10/18/2025 Holson Valley shelter 16.5 miles Begin around 10 End 5:30pm I started the Ouachita Trail today. It is only about 220 miles beginning in Oklahoma and ending near Little Rock. It has been ok so far but pretty unkempt. One place especially, it took me a while to find my way through that area. But really, it has been pretty nice. I’ve only seen two other hikers and no one here tonight. We’ll see if I can do 20 tomorrow.
